The Green Wing Macaw is one of the largest macaw species, second only to the Hyacinth Macaw. Known for their gentle, even-tempered personality, they are often called the 'gentle giants' of the macaw world. Their stunning tri-colored plumage — deep red body, green and blue wings, and distinctive red feather lines on their white facial patches — makes them truly magnificent. Green Wings are less nippy than other macaws and tend to form incredibly deep emotional bonds with their owners. They are intelligent, can learn to speak, and enjoy cuddling and physical affection. These birds need a very large cage or aviary, daily out-of-cage time, and consistent interaction. Lifespan is 50–80 years with proper care.
Diet
A varied diet including macaw pellets, fresh fruits (papaya, mango, banana), vegetables (sweet potato, kale, bell peppers), and a generous portion of nuts (Brazil nuts, almonds, walnuts).
