The Palm Cockatoo is one of the most striking and unique cockatoo species in the world. With their dramatic dark grey-black plumage, large crest, massive black beak, and bright red cheek patches that change color with mood, they are truly unforgettable. They are the only cockatoo species that uses tools — they drum on hollow trees with sticks as part of their courtship ritual. Palm Cockatoos are intelligent, dignified birds that form incredibly deep bonds with their owners. They are not as cuddly as some cockatoo species but are fiercely loyal and affectionate in their own way. Their impressive size (up to 60 cm / 24 inches) and commanding presence make them the 'royalty' of the cockatoo world. They require an experienced owner, spacious housing, and a diet rich in native nuts and seeds. Lifespan can exceed 60 years.
Diet
A specialized diet rich in native Australian nuts (macadamia, almonds), high-quality cockatoo pellets, fresh fruits, vegetables, and palm nuts. They have higher fat requirements than other cockatoos.
