The Citron-Crested Cockatoo is a quieter, more gentle cockatoo species distinguished by its distinctive orange (citron) crest, compared to the yellow crest of its close relative, the Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo. They are a critically endangered species in the wild, making captive-bred individuals especially valuable. Citron-Crested Cockatoos are known for their calm, reserved temperament — they are less demanding than many cockatoo species while still being affectionate and loyal. They bond closely with their owners and enjoy gentle interaction and head scratches. Their quieter nature makes them more suitable for apartment living than other cockatoo species. They are intelligent, can learn to talk and perform tricks, and have a sweet, endearing personality.
Diet
High-quality cockatoo pellets, fresh vegetables (broccoli, beans, leafy greens), fruits, and limited nuts and seeds. Provide a variety of foods for nutritional balance.
